Dedicated to the memory of my mother JC, written by RC and only possible because of ET- the story beyond the heart.
Once upon a time, there was a girl with golden wheat hair that lived in a dry barren region where nothing green grew without the effort of her great green thumbs. In the year of 94 an enormous black cloud settled over her adobe abode, where she and her precious and beloved mother with the radiant heart, presided. Unbeknownst this was the cloud of tears not rain for it was carrying death. which was shadowing and would shatter her well placed life. Within that cloud , however, carried a bright green angel holding a 1924 wooden shaft chipper(known as seven iron today) golf club. ET (not the movie ET), but daughter’s papa was dumped upon the compost pile (he was earning his wings).
Mean while the girl with the golden wheat hair was ignoring the gray mass for death had passed the house more times than a cat has lives. The time had come to replace a front yard tree that had lost it’s vigor for life. The stump was removed and a special soil was being concocted with ingredients from her compost. in preparation for a glorious pecan tree.
ET was toiling over time for he knew the messages and the events of the future would be coming fast. He chipped and searched in the compost pile somewhere amidst the yard droppings, kitchen vegetable scrapes and the horse, pigeon and rabbit manure lay what he was looking for. God knew that the chances of a watermelon seed, the very few that was laid in rest upon the heap, that would still have the zest for life. survive the heat of decaying and would grow in a new environment, giving hope and a much needed distraction to the girl with the golden wheat hair. would be impossible to have and behold without the help of a special angel.
The girl with the dimple. also known as RC, began in November in search for a nursery that would have a pecan tree. “Come back after the first of the year” the nursery staff said, “there aren’t any trees to be had”. The hole was ripe and rich with the amenities to launch a fifty foot tree. Instead a lonely little seedling was sprouting from black nuggets that graced the hole where the pecan tree was to grow.
Being curious RC watered the little plant not knowing what was exactly growing. ET was very proud for his mission was being accomplished and he spread his new wings wide to cover up this little plant to shelter it from too much heat or to much cold. As he was sheltering this little seedling he was also sheltering his little daughter. Mommy was dying, but this little plant grew with more vigor than you could imagine. the vines grew, the water bills grew and she knew that she had a watermelon plant. The large front yard once seen as a hot bed of gravel, now flourished with a green, lush bed of watermelons. They were so tiny the fruit of this vine and how would they ever grow to be so big, strong and juicy red melon and how many would this singular plant give away too. Little did the girl with dimple know. that the wings of papa were there to protect and insure the fruit from the vine? The lady with the golden heart was confined to a hospital bed and would listen each day to the story of how the watermelons were propagating. The girl with the golden wheat hair was overwhelmed with excitement. There were now twenty-five melons on the vine. The excitement grew in the neighborhood, in the hospital, and throughout the land.
Mom would come home to watermelons. On July 2,1994 she died. They watermelons were ripe with honey and in death there is life and in life there is hope and with angels there are distractions to cope with events of sorrow.
July 17 the first melon was opened and the juice ran freely and the living came together to share with death, pain and celebration of a new life. The vine gave freely for over twenty-five watermelons were produced weighing on the average of 35 lbs each.
The story has been written and you are now part of the story beyond the heart.
This story is true and I verify it because I lived it and I cry every time I read it.
